Responsibilities

The Position and Job Responsibilities:
 
Our Construction Equipment Group is currently looking for a full time Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technical Support Specialist / Engineer for our New Hudson, MI branch. The primary responsibilities of the position consist of, but are not limited to:
  • Communicating with technicians and customers
  • Understanding electrical and hydraulic schematics to interpret explain over the phone or in-person
  • Work closely with our manufacturers' engineers and technical personnel
  • Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time

We encourage our Technicians to participate in our in-house paid training program, allowing them to acquire additional skills in diagnosis and troubleshooting and further advance their career as a Technician. Also, company uniforms are provided!

 

Qualifications

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience and an AS/AA degree is desired
  • Two years of Vo-Tech in diesel engines is desired
  • Previous field experience is highly preferable
  • Must be able to read and understand electical schematics
  • Must be able to write detailed and professional reports
  • Excellent reading and listing skills
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Must have clean driving record and valid driver’s license to drive company vehicle
  • Computer programs - Microsfot Word, Excel, Outlook, ERP systems, Salesforce.com/Microsoft Dynamics
  • Language Skills - High:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills - High:Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability - High:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
  • Physical/Sensory Functions: Regularly will sit, use hands, reach with hands, talk/hear; Frequently will stand, walk; Occasionally will climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste/smell.
  • Vision: Depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and ability to see color.
  • Lift and/or Move Functions: Regularly will lift up to 10 pounds; Frequently will lift 11 to 25 pounds; Occasionally will lift from 26 to 50 plus pounds.
  • Work Environment: Frequently will work near moving mechanical parts; Occasionally will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
